When you hear the word &#8220;Botox&#8221; you might think of a 50-year-old woman with a paralyzed facial expression.\u00a0Thinking about a young adult having Botox applied might seem like a ridiculous idea. But it is not a crazy thought and it is a highly effective procedure. Bear with me!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What many people do not know (and it is not often said) is that Botox may be used as a wrinkle preventive and can be very effectively used on young adults to prevent already present facial expression lines.<\/p>\n<h4>How Botox Works<\/h4>\n<p>Botox, or\u00a0Botulinum toxin, when applied\u00a0in small quantities in specific places, it blocks the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, interfering with a muscle&#8217;s ability to contract. It relaxes the facial muscles and therefore disappears wrinkles or facial expression lines.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, the blocked neurotransmitter finds another way to travel (a process which takes between 6-7 months after application).<\/p>\n<p>With this being explained, it&#8217;s not difficult to understand why young people are turning to cosmetic injections to prevent their already present expression lines from deepening or becoming more prominent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When you start to develop the earliest sign of resting wrinkles, this is the best time to start treating them, before wrinkles start to stick\u2014it is presumptive to assume that they will develop,&#8221; Dr. Zeichner, New York-based board-certified dermatologist, says.<\/p>\n<p>I, a 27-year-old\u00a0female, actually just recently had some Botox applied in between my eyebrows.
